4 Qul Shareef (Char/Charo Qul) are short yet four powerful Surahs of the Holy Quran that begins with the word Qul (قل). Reciting the 4 Quls hold immense rewards and benefits despite being among theshortest surahsin the entire Quran making them relatively easy to memorize.

The Four Quls are known as the protecting Surahs. They are considered a shield for Muslims as they protect from black magic, evil eye, whispers of Shaitaan, and Shirk. Muslims should recite more often especially at night before going to bed as recommended by our Prophet (ﷺ) and in daily prayers as we will discuss in detail their benefits.

1. Surah Al-Kafirun

The 1st Qul Surah is the 109th chapter of the Quran. It consists of a total of 6 Ayas. In these verses, Allah guides the believers about their behavior toward the nonbeliever and those who reject the religion, prophets, and angels.

2. Surah Al-Ikhlas

The 2nd Quls is Surah Al-Ikhlas which is the 112th chapter of the Quran. It is the shortest Surah consisting only of a total of 4 Ayas. In these verses, Allah claims the concept ofTauheedthat He is the one and only sustainer and Creator of this entire universe, and to Him, we all will return.

3. Surah Al-Falaq

The third Qul of the Quran isSurah Al-Falaq which is the second last surah of the Quran at number 113th consisting of only 5 Ayas. In these verses, Allah reminds us that He is the controller of the entire universe and to Him, humans shall ask for protection from the evils.

4. Surah An-Nas

The 4th Qul of the Quran isSurah An-Nas, it is also the last chapter of the Quran at 114th, consisting of 6 Ayas. In these verses, Allah affirms that He is the only God and king of mankind and that humans and other creatures need to seek refuge in Him from all evils and conspiracies.

Benefits of the 4 Quls

1. Protection from Shirk

Farwah bin Nawfal (RA) narrated that:

He came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may say when I go to my bed.” So he said: “Recite: Say: ‘O you disbelievers’ for verily it is a disavowal of Shirk.” [Jami Al Tirmiz]

2. Equal to one-thirdof the Quran

The Prophet (ﷺ) said to his companions, “Is it difficult for any of you to recite one-third of the Qur’an in one night?” This suggestion was difficult for them so they said, “Who among us has the power to do so, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” Allah Apostle replied: ” Allah (the) One, the Self-Sufficient Master Whom all creatures need.’ (Surat Al-Ikhlas 112.1–to the End) is equal to one-third of the Quran.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari]

3. Protection from Black magic and Evil eye.

Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al- Nas are all about asking Allah (SWT) for protection from Black magic and Evil eyes. Surah Falaq tells of seeking God’s Refuge From the Evil Of All Creation. And Surah Nas tells us to SeekAllah’s Refuge From the Evil Of the Conspiracies Of All Creation.

4. Healing from sickness

Whenever Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) became sick, he would recite (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An- Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Suras) and rub his hands over his body hoping for its blessings.[Sahih al-Bukhari]

5. It is Sunnah before sleep

Aisha reported: “The Messenger of Allah, (ﷺ), would get ready for sleep, he would blow into his hands, recite the two chapters of refuge (surah al-Falaq and surah an-Nas), and he would wipe his hands over his body.” [Sahih Bukhari]
