Console Commands for Dragon Age: Origins - Cheat Codes, Create Items, and More (2024)

Console Commands and Cheats for Dragon Age Origins

Many games include a special in-game console for trying special commands, and Dragon Age: Origins is no different. The console is often a leftover piece of coding used by the game designers for playtesting, and it gets left behind for users to run cheats, generate items, and so on. In this article, I will show you how to get into the Dragon Age: Origins console and run these commands.

Before we get into the console commands in Dragon Age: Origins, I would first like to comment on cheating in this game. I have played through Dragon Age as a rogue and completed the game, and I had a very fun time doing so. If you are getting very frustrated with a certain battle or some part of the game, then by all means cheat a little to get past it. However, don’t be too tempted to run through the game with all the cheats turned on or else it will really make the game less enjoyable. That being said, use these commands at your own risk, and be sure to save your game before you try any of them.

Enable Console Commands

Before you can use these console commands in Dragon Age: Origins, you must first make a couple of minor edits in order to enable them within the game. Follow these steps:

  1. Make a shortcut to the main Dragon Age: Origins program file, daorigins.exe.
  2. Edit the shortcut and add -enabledeveloperconsole to the end of the Target box so that it looks like this: “C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole
  3. Go to your My Documents (or just Documents in Windows Vista) and open the folder called Bioware, then go into the Dragon Age folder and then the Settings folder.
  4. Use Notepad to open the file KeyBindings.ini.
  5. Locate the line called OpenConsole_0 and edit so that it should look like this: OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_~

What this does is enable the console so that it comes up when you press the tilda (~) key on your keyboard. It’s located in the upper left corner of most keyboards.

While playing Dragon Age: Origins, press the tilda (~) key to open the console command window. You won’t be able to see what you type, so be very careful. It is recommended that you hit the backspace key once before you type a command, just to clear the field. When finished, press the Enter key, then press ~ again to close the console window. You won’t get any kind of notification that what you did worked or not, so you’ll have to verify yourself depending on which command you used.

Dragon Age: Origins Console Commands

There are tons of console commands available in Dragon Age: Origins, though you’ll most likely just use a handful of them. Always save your game before you use these, just in case something happens. I haven’t experienced any problems with these codes, but you don’t want to risk losing your progress. Here are some of the most useful ones:

  • runscript addxp x - X is the amount of experience points you wish to add, so you’ll type a number instead of the letter. This is a great way to boost character levels in the game.
  • runscript healplayer - This automatically restores all the health to every character in your party. It’s great to use during a tough fight when you are worried about someone falling in battle.
  • runscript killallhostiles - I admit to using this a couple of times during the final battle when I was getting bored with killing all the swarms of enemies. It kills everyone around you that is in a red circle.
  • runscript zz_reveal_map - This will reveal the entire map, but be careful because it makes it harder to keep up with unexplored areas.
  • runscript injury remparty - This removes all injuries from your party, which is really great when you don’t have any injury kits to get rid of them. Certain injuries can really slow you down in battle.
