NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN's men's track & field team will compete in six events 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships West Region First Round this week. The meet will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. at the John McDonnell Field with men's events scheduled for Wednesday and Friday.

In total, CSUN will send student-athletes to compete in three sprints, one relay and two field events. The top 12 competitors for each individual event and the top 12 teams from each relay event advance for each first round.

Trey Knight opens competition in the hammer throw on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. PT. Knight qualified in west region with his CSUN school record toss of 76.99m at the Mt. SAC Relays (252-7) on April 20. His toss put him at the No. 2 seed at the event. He won the hammer throw title at the 2024 Big West Championships on May 11 while he was named Big West Field Athlete of the Year last week.

In the 100m, CSUN will send three to compete on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. PT. Chase Mars enters with the 20th seed after running a time of 10.20 at the Big West Championships where he took second place. Mars' time is top mark in school history in the 100m dash (non wind-aided). James Crawford also qualified for the event after posting a time of 10.28 (wind-aided) at the Desert Heat Classic on April 27 as he enters with the 35th seed in the region. Right behind is David Phillips, Jr. who qualified with a time of 10.28 at the Vince O'Boyle Classic on March 30, which puts him at the 36th seed.

Chris Pitts will compete in the 400m on Wednesday at 5:25 p.m. PT. Pitts would qualify for the event with a school record time of 46.13 at the 2024 Big West Championships, which earned him a 400m title. His time is ranked 28th in the region.

The trio of Phillips, Mars and Crawford will also compete in the 200m on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. PT. Phillips would qualify with a time of 20.44 (wind-aided) at the Beach Invite on April 13 as he is seeded 10th. Mars, who is seeded 14th, notched his best time of the outdoor season at the Big West Championships where he won the title with a time of 20.52 (wind-aided). Crawford qualified also at the Big West Championships with a time of 20.64, putting him at the 24th seed.

Relay events begin on Friday with CSUN's 4x100 team set to compete at 3:00 p.m. PT. The Matadors will send six to the event, which includes Tosh Black, Phillips, Crawford, Mars, Shamil Youngblood and De Marq Jaque. The quartet of Black, Phillips, Crawford and Mars qualified CSUN for the event with a school-record time of 39.29 at the Vince O'Boyle Classic. CSUN's relay team holds the No. 11 seed in the region.

The Matadors also have two set for competition in the triple jump, which is held on Friday at 4:00 p.m. PT. Dillon Peters, the 2024 Big West triple jump champion, qualified for the event with his mark of 15.69m (51-5.75) at the Trojan Invite. Peters' mark put him at the No. 18 seed. Also, Bryson Williams will compete in the event after his leap of 15.58m (51-1.50) at the same Trojan Invite, putting him as the No. 26 seed.
