Fae language is the language spoken by the Fae. Known speakers of the language include Bast and Felurian.

"One of my favorite in-world cusses that Bast says at one point is 'anpauen'. He just, like, spits it out. What that means is 'shoe iron', which, to a fairy creature, is real bad."[2] Bast uses 'anpauen' as a forceful emphatic swear word.[3][4][5] Rothfuss describes it as a 'dirty f*cking Fae word'[6], and 'as dirty as the c-word but a little bit more of a straight-up invective like bullsh*t', and equates it to his use of 'motherf*cker'.[7][8]

"ciar nalias!"Felurian rebukes Kvothe with this when he uses sympathy. Or it could mean something like "No light!" after he makes light using sympathy.[12]. The word "ciar" is also used in both Felurian and Dedan's Fae songs about Felurian.[8]

Felurian sings this in the human world to beckon men. Differences to Dedan's version are underlined, capitalization notwithstanding. [8]

Relayed to Dedan from a village boy about a man who went with Felurian. never to return. Close to the song Felurian sang but not quite.[15]
"Te veyan? Te-tanten ventelanet?"Spoken by Bast when pretending to be possessed by a skin dancer. Since he couldn't understand the skin dancer, it makes sense that he is using modern language.[5]

Ancient Mael language[]

This is the language spoken by the Skin dancer. Bast says that he couldn't understand it and that it had archaic phrasing, so it can easily be classed as a different dialect, if not a different language.
