You might be asking--"Fairies? Really?"--but what's life without a little magic, right?

As it turns out, there's a lot of symbolism associated with flowers and fairies, and knowing the meaning behind some of the beautiful blooms in our yards will help you create the perfect fairy garden ambiance.

For instance...Did you know that a field of bluebells signifies the entrance into the enchanting realm of the fairies? Or that cowslips--according to fairy folklore--are the keys to the fairy realm? And primrose is another flower very closely associated with the gateway to the land of the fairy folk.

Anyone with a childlike imagination can also remember what it was like to visualize the little folk sleeping inside flowers or taking shelter from the rain. Fairies have a particular liking for foxgloves and cowslips. It is said that the Fairy Queen even sleeps in a soft bed of fragrant thyme!

Those searching for "fairy sight" will want to plant lavender or rosemary. Both plants are known as elf leaf; anyone who possesses a sprig is granted the gift of being able to see nearby fairies. Clover, primrose, and thyme have these properties as well.

And finally, if you are looking to ward off any bad mojo in your fairy garden, try planting herbs like lavender, thyme, or rosemary. Primrose is another flower worth using for this purpose, but nurture and take care of it! You wouldn't want to displease the fairy folk!
