What is the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival?
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is an annual event held in the beautiful Skagit Valley of Washington State, USA. The festival is a county-wide celebration throughout the month of April, that centers around the blooming of millions of tulips. The festival is comprised of multiple gardens, tulip fields, events, and activities spread throughout our beautiful valley. We are the only Washington Tulip Festival and proudly serve as the largest tulip festival in North America!
When is the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival held each year?
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival runs from April 1 – April 30 each spring, but the tulips bloom according to Mother Nature. Some years they begin blooming as early as mid-March and other years they last a week into May. The festival may extend beyond April 30 if the tulips are still blooming.

When will the tulips bloom?
It really depends on Mother Nature! Some years, with a warm February and March, the tulips will bloom early. We’ve seen blooms as early as mid-March. Other years, with colder temperatures, the tulips will bloom later. On average, the tulips start to bloom around April 4.

Where is the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival located?
There isn’t a single address for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival—it’s a county-wide celebration! Our festival is based on the tulip crops of RoozenGaarde (over 350 acres) and four gorgeous gardens (RoozenGaarde, Tulip Town, Garden Rosalyn and Tulip Valley Farms). RoozenGaarde is open year-round with a gift shop as well as other blooming flowers for you to come and see during the summer. Tulip Town, Garden Rosalyn and Tulip Valley Farms are open only during the month of April (for the spring tulip bloom).
In addition to the gardens, we have MANY events and activities, spread throughout our beautiful valley and happening throughout the month of April.
To help plan your visit, see our Know Before You Go page.
You can also come to our headquarters and gift shop at 311 W Kincaid Street in downtown Mount Vernon to shop Tulip Festival merchandise or receive helpful information from our volunteers.
Where do I buy tickets?
Direct from the gardens. Our festival is unique—there isn’t a single ticket for admission. Each garden has their own ticket that you purchase directly, either online at each garden’s website or in-person at each garden. Roozengaarde, Tulip Town, Garden Rosalyn, and Tulip Valley Farms are the current tulip gardens.
Visit our Gardens + Tickets page. There are also a number of free activities and events, which can be found on our Events page.
How much are tickets?
Each individual garden sets their own pricing. All ticketing details, with links to purchase, can be found on our Gardens + Tickets page.
What are the hours of each garden?
Please see our Gardens + Tickets page for detailed information on pricing and hours of each garden, as well as the various features that each tulip garden offers.
Can I walk to the festival?
The short answer is no. With our festival, you get to see the tulips growing in a variety of displays at individual gardens and as crops in big fields. Therefore, you’ll need to drive from garden to garden and will want to see the 100s of acres of tulips spread throughout the Skagit Valley (remember, an acre is the size of a pro soccer field). Each of these areas are miles apart PLUS, you’ll want to find your favorites among our many events, held in our cities, which are also miles apart.
When is the best time to visit?
This comes down to personal preference. The gardens ensure to plant a wide variety of early, mid and late-season blooming varieties to ensure there is color throughout the season. But remember, tulips bloom according to Mother Nature, so before you come, be sure to check our website for bloom updates. Weekends are the most popular days to visit and may be quite busy. If you visit during weekdays, early mornings, and late afternoons, you’re likely to see fewer crowds. With that said, the gardens encompass ACRES of land and there is lots of room for flower fans.
What should I wear?
Check the weather before you come and plan accordingly. We recommend bringing options and layers, as conditions can change. Be prepared for muddy fields or pathways, boots are always a good idea! And remember that even if it’s sunny and dry on the day you plan to visit, if we’ve had rain on the days preceding your visit, the tulip fields may still be muddy! Heavy rainfall does not dry in a day and with a period of prolonged rainfall, the fields will take longer to dry.
What if it rains?
The tulips bloom whether it rains or shines and the Tulip Festival takes place rain or shine. Take advantage of the rain and come on out for a visit… you might find you have some of the gardens almost all to yourself!
Where do I park for the Tulip Festival? Is there handicap parking?
Parking is free at each of the gardens and each have handicap parking available.

We want to come and see the tulips in June… November … December … February. Are they in bloom?
The tulips grown in the Skagit Valley are a bulb crop that blooms only once a year. The festival happens in April because that is when the tulips bloom. Sometimes due to warmer or colder temperatures, you can see blooming tulips in late March or early May. However, you are unable to see the tulips outside of the spring timeframe. You often can find tulips in the grocery stores throughout the year because they can be grown in greenhouses year-round and may also come from other areas of the world with different climates.
Are you the only Washington Tulip Festival?
Yes! We are the only Washington Tulip Festival and the largest Tulip Festival in North America. We proudly celebrate in concert with our four tulip gardens during the month of April. Our rich Tulip Festival history dates back to 1984 with millions of visitors gracing the Skagit Valley annually, many from around the world.
