Metroid Prime Remastered: Where to Go After Ice Beam (2024)

The Ice Beam is a weapon in Metroid Prime Remastered that players will find in the Chozo Ruins' Antechamber. Not only is this Beam very powerful in combat, it can also be used to open white doors. This means that fans that have obtained the Ice Beam in Metroid Prime Remastered have the ability to visit some brand-new areas, and this walkthrough is here to provide details on the specific areas that they should be targeting.

To note, this guide will outline a route upon which players can pick up several Missile Upgrades, an Energy Tank, and an Artifact, though it is not the shortest path to the game's next power-up. For those fans that are not interested in obtaining those upgrades, and plan to work on collecting Artifacts later, it is acceptable to take the following route and then skip to the Frozen Pike section below:

Metroid Prime Remastered: After Ice Beam Walkthrough

Metroid Prime Remastered: Where to Go After Ice Beam (1)

After collecting the Ice Beam and stopping by the Save Station that is across from the Antechamber, players should return to the Hall of Elders. Fans will now be able to activate the white Morph Ball slot in this room and place a Morph Ball Bomb inside it. This action will open a new path, and Metroid Prime Remastered players should get tossed into it by the statute to grab an Energy Tank.

Players should now work their way back to the Chozo Ruins' Main Plaza by passing through the Furnace, Energy Core, Gathering Hall, Arboretum, and Ruined Fountain. Fans should then set their sights on the Sun Tower, which can be reached by traveling through the Ruined Nursery, Ruined Gallery, and Hive Totem. Notably, players will have the opportunity to make a save in Metroid Prime Remastered along this path, and they are advised to take it.

Upon reaching the Sun Tower, players should use Missiles to destroy the War Wasp Hives that line the walls and then focus on locating four runic symbols. For full clarity, two of these symbols are found behind Cordite wall hangs, which can be destroyed with Super Missiles in Metroid Prime Remastered, and the other two are on the room's pillars. Once all four runic symbols have been scanned, players can use the Spider Ball Track to ascend, using Morph Ball jumps and Bombs as necessary, and reach the Sunchamber.

Players must now beat three of Metroid Prime Remastered's Chozo Ghosts, and they will be rewarded with the Artifact of Wild when the job is done. Fans can then backtrack through the Sun Tower to reach the Magmoor Caverns North elevator and descend into that fiery biome.

Magmoor Caverns

The Magmoor Caverns' Monitor Station is the next target, and players should make sure to save along the way. Once fans reach this room of interest, they should climb, cross the suspended bridge, and work their way to the Phendrana Drifts North elevator. Players should navigate to the Phendrana Shorelines in this snowy level and make another save.

Phendrana Drifts

It is now time to make a quick stop in front of the Chozo Temple in the Phendrana Shorelines. There is a Cordite wall hang next to the door that leads into this structure, which players should hit with a Super Missile. Fans should then perform a scan to open a nearby pillar that contains a Spider Ball Track leading to a Missile Expansion.

Metroid Prime Remastered: Where to Go After Ice Beam (4)

Players must now navigate through the Ice Ruins West, Ruined Courtyard, and Research Entrance in order to reach Research Lab Hydra. There is a terminal at the top of walkway in this lab, and players should hit the column to its left with a Super Missile to reveal a Missile Expansion. Metroid fans should then work through the Observatory, Control Tower, and Research Lab Aether in order to access the Research Core.

There as an Ice Beam door at the bottom of this room, which fans should pass through to enter Pike Access. The Frozen Pike is on the other side of this hallway, and it is worth noting that there is a path leading to the Magmoor Caverns South elevator at the top of this room.

Frozen Pike

In the Frozen Pike, players should use the Wave Beam door that is below the Pike Access route to enter Frost Cave Access. This path will take fans to the Frost Cave, and they should quickly dispatch the Hunter Metroid upon entry. Players should then direct their attention to the ceiling and hit the base of two Stalactites with Missiles. The Stalactite on the right will allow fans to access a Save Station, which they should use before climbing the Stalactite on the left.

This left Stalactite leads to the Upper Edge Tunnel and ultimately Phendrana's Edge. Here, players should drop into the water and use Metroid Prime Remastered's Wave Beam to pass through a door to the Lower Edge Tunnel. Fan should then advance into the Hunter's Cave, hit three Stalactites with Missiles, and cross to the Lake Tunnel.

The Lake Tunnel can now be used to reach the Gravity Chamber, and players should work their way to its back-left corner. It is in this position that fans of classic Metroid games will find their next power-up, the Gravity Suit, which will make it much easier to move underwater.

Metroid Prime Remastered is available on the Nintendo Switch.
