Now that it’s patio weather, our Urban Hikes KC team is out enjoying our favorite patios in Kansas City and we’d love to share them with you. Most of these recommendations and photos are from our Crossroads Westside Urban Hikes KC Guide and foodie, Lori Abiecunas, with a few others peppered throughout from the rest of us!
Canary
Canary has a modern bistro, bar and rooftop patio. They have great co*cktails and the patio, located on the 11th floor has a spectacular view of downtown KC! It is owned and operated by a husband and wife team.
J. Rieger & Co
Electric Park is an 11,000 square foot outdoor space in the historic East bottoms-based distillery J. Rieger & Co. Electric Park garden bar includes an open-air patio bar with fire pits, lounge areas, glass atrium and a food trailer. There is a table with swing chairs you can reserve. You can head inside for tastings, tours of the distillery or go upstairs to the Monogram Lounge for food. There is also a museum highlighting the interesting history of the area and a really fun inside slide!
Brookside Barrio
This contemporary Mexican restaurant is located in the heart of Brookside. It has a large outdoor bar with a covered patio and has more outdoor seating than indoor! They have a fantastic happy hour (2:30-6:30pm) Mon-Fri that includes street tacos, queso, guacamole, margaritas and of course a fresh basket of chips! You must try their elote (street corn)! They also serve Brunch on Sat and Sun from 10-2 pm with bottomless mimosas!
Chicken N Pickle
The original Chicken N Pickle is located in the Northland with a unique indoor/outdoor complex that includes a restaurant, pickle ball courts, rooftop bar and entertainment space and a variety of yard games, including cornhole and Jenga!
Mocking Bird Lounge
The Mockingbird Lounge found in the heart of Strawberry Hill, Kansas City, Kansas and has the perfect eclectic patio with a Downtown Kansas City, MO skyline view. This locally owned lounge just celebrated their five year anniversary. They have unique and tasty co*cktails, in addition to mouth watering creations like chorizo waffles, blueberry salsa or vegan chili.
KC Bier Co.
KC Bier Co. where German-style beer is brewed and bottled here in Waldo, a south KC neighborhood! They offer brewery tours, a friendly atmosphere with a selection of German bar food that includes pretzels and sausages. KC Bier Co is KC’s largest 100% locally-owned and independent craft brewery located right off the Trolley Trail.
The Westside Local
The Westside Local: One of the farm to table dining experiences in the Westside. They do their best to support local farms and businesses! I (Lori) love their deviled eggs, kale salad with brussel sprouts, homemade veggie burger and delicious pint of fries with parmesan. On Sunday, they do offer Blunch-it is more lunch than breakfast! They have a lovely, cozy patio with gorgeous flowers and vegetation.
The Littlest Bake Shop
This hidden gem is a peaceful escape from the busy sounds and energy of the city nestled in the Morningside neighborhood. Pair that with the delicious gluten-free vegan treats from the woman owned and operated local bakery, The Littlest Bake Shop it’s the perfect place to take in the Summer fresh air
John’s Big Deck
Lively bar and grill with a rooftop patio in downtown KC. It offers 3 floors of food, drink and entertainment with friends! They have an event space, pool tables, dance floor and stage are as well as the Big Deck rooftop offering iconic views of downtown.
Parlor KC
Adjacent to the vibrant Art Alley, filled with street art, this Crossroads dining experience features 7 uniquely owned and chef operated restaurants all under one roof. Parlor has several spaces that are perfect for get-togethers, including a semi-private study space, fully private 100 capacity cellar event space and the patio on the second floor. There is also a bar on each floor.
Splitlog Coffee
We begin all of our Strawberry Hill/Downtown KCK Urban Hikes here. The KCK location of Splitlog Coffee has two rooftop patios with picturesque views and excellent coffee. Their rooftop patios have views of Downtown KCMO, but from KCK. Splitlog Coffee is the perfect place for a meeting or to bring your laptop and work away. Their scones are also so delish and a perfect complement to their rich coffee.
Crossroads Hotel Rooftop: Percheron
The Crossroads Hotel, Percheron rooftop has that picture perfect view of downtown. Along with the delicious co*cktails and small plates, you get atmosphere. They often have live music and just kicked off their 2022 summer concert series with Jessica Paige. Be on the lookout for other performers, local artists and entrepreneurs that are showcased by the Crossroads Hotel and definitely take the time to make it to this rooftop gem, Percheron. We start our Artful KC Streetcar Urban Hike with this iconic view.
Last but not least, in the heart of Westport is Char Bar, a BBQ restaurant that also offers meat-free options including jackfruit and grilled pimento cheese! They have a 10,000 square foot garden patio area featuring croquet, ping pong, bocce and cornhole. They serve brunch Sat & Sun from 10-3pm. The Meat Mitch table sauce is sweet and tangy and is one of our favorite BBQ sauces!
