An easy and delicious salted oven roasted pecans recipe. These roasted pecans are the perfect addictive appetizer for parties or gatherings. This simple recipe is ready in under 30 minutes!

I’ve said it many times, and truly believe it’s true.

Simple is best.

That’s the first thing that came to mind when I decided to share this salted oven roasted pecan recipe. I’m not totally sure it should be called a recipe, because it’s so simple…but we’re calling it that anyway! This is an old family recipe that I first tasted at my in-laws. My husband’s grandmother made these, and after she passed away, her daughters made them. They are a great addition to any gathering, and they make a lovely homemade gift.

Easy Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 275 degrees F.
  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. (Optional)
  • Place pecans in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  • Cut 4 slices of salted butter, 1 tablespoon each.
  • Cut each butter pat into 6 small pieces.
  • Drop butter pieces evenly over pecan halves.
  • Evenly sprinkle the salt over the pecans/butter.
  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and stir pecans well until all are coated with butter and salt.
  • Return the pecans to one layer on the cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes more.
  • Watch closely at the end so the pecans don’t get too done. You want them to be golden brown.
  • Remove from oven. Cool on cookie sheet to room temperature.
  • Store in an airtight container or resealable freezer bag.

Ingredient Notes

  • I use salted butter, but it’s fine to use unsalted if that’s what you have on hand. There is no need to add extra salt.
  • We like our pecans buttery, so I use 4 tablespoons of butter. If you would like toasted pecans that are a bit dryer, use less butter. The butter amount can definitely be adjusted to your own taste.
  • Any kind of salt can be used: kosher salt, sea salt, or pink himalayan salt.
  • To make a double batch, simply double the ingredients and use two baking sheets.

DON’T FORGET TO PIN THIS!

Variations

  • For a bit more flavor, replace 1/2 teaspoon of the salt with 1/2 teaspoon of seasoning salt.
  • Make cinnamon pecans by using a cinnamon sugar mixture instead of salt. Combine 2 teaspoons granulated sugar,1 teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Add to the pecans before baking.
  • For some extra zing, add a few shakes of chili powder or red pepper flakes, or sprinkle worcestershire sauce.
  • Drizzle maple syrup on the pecans before baking and cut the salt amount to 1/2 teaspoon.

Ways To Use Oven Roasted Pecans

  • Eat these delicious nuts just as they are!
  • Serve them on on your favorite salads, or use them in chicken salad.
  • Add them to a charcuterie board.
  • Use them as a topping for ice cream sundaes.
  • Layer yogurt, fresh fruit, and these pecan pieces to make yogurt parfaits.
  • For a salty snack, combine these pecans with other nuts, seeds, and dried fruit to make your own homemade trail mix.
  • Blend these pecans in a food processor to make pecan butter.
  • Crush salted roasted pecans and use them as a coating for chicken or fish. (One of our local restaurants serves pecan crusted chicken and it’s truly amazing.)
  • My favorite way to serve this easy recipe is to fill a beautiful small bowl. Use your favorite bowl, use something festive for the holidays, or use a wooden pedestal bowl.

That’s it! Roasting pecans with this oven method is so easy. All you need to make this delicious treat are three simple ingredients, and less than thirty minutes. If you love pecans, this is sure to become one of your favorite recipes.

FAQs

What is the difference between roasted and toasted pecans? ›

Now, some of you may be wondering, “What's the difference between roasting and toasting a pecan?”. The answer is simple. Roasting is when the nut is cooked fully through, and is usually done in an oven. Toasting means to brown the nut on the outside, and is usually done over a fire or on the stove.

Why do you soak pecans before roasting? ›

Wet pecans allow the salt to stick easily to the nuts. Plus, soaking nuts helps neutralize enzyme inhibitors, which can harm your digestion, and reduce phytates, which decrease nutrient absorption. Just submerge your nuts in water while the oven is heating up and you'll be good to go.

What is the best way to roast pecans? ›

Your oven is also a great tool for toasting pecans. For this method, preheat an oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the nuts evenly onto a rimmed baking sheet and bake until they begin to brown and become aromatic, making sure to toss halfway through, 7 to 10 minutes.

What is the best temperature to roast pecans? ›

Oven: Spread them on a baking sheet and roast them in a 350°F oven. Stovetop: Toast them in a skillet over medium-high heat. Microwave: Microwave on HIGH for 30-60 seconds. Air fry: Pop them in your air fryer at 320°F.

Are roasted salted pecans healthy? ›

Roasted salted pecans are more than just a delicious snack; they are a nutritional powerhouse that can contribute to a healthy diet in various ways. How do you get seasoning to stick to pecans? ›

Beat egg white and water together in a large bowl; add pecans and stir to coat. Mix sugar, cinnamon, salt, cloves, and nutmeg in a small bowl; sprinkle over moistened nuts. Spread nuts on the prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven, stirring once or twice, until toasted and fragrant, about 30 minutes.

Should you always toast pecans before baking? ›

Answer: Yes, nuts are great as-is, but they can be better. Way better. Toasting nuts draws the natural oils to the surface, intensifying the rich nutty essence, creating a deeper color, and making the nuts crunchier. Toasting your nuts prior to adding them to a recipe can improve the flavor and texture of any dish.

Why are my roasted pecans bitter? ›

Pecans have two sources of bitterness -- naturally occurring tannins in the kernel and pieces of corky material from the inside of the nut which can adhere to the kernel. Some of the tannin and all of the corky material can be removed by washing the kernels before cooking.

Are oven roasted pecans good for you? ›

Does Roasting Nuts Make Them Unhealthy? Some roasting skeptics believe nuts lose part or all of their nutritional value when roasted or cooked. Fortunately, for healthy eating enthusiasts everywhere roasted nuts of any kind remain great sources of natural proteins, fiber, and fats.

What is the best method for roasting nuts? ›

How it works: Place the nuts in cold, dry skillet over medium heat and toast them, tossing frequently, until browned in spots and fragrant. Then immediately transfer the nuts to a plate or bowl.

How do you salt nuts when roasting? ›

Place nuts on baking sheet and drizzle with oil and salt. Roast for 3 minutes, then shake the pan, and roast remaining 2 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. Once cooled, store in air tight container on the counter and eat within 10 days for optimum flavor, or freeze for up to 3 months!

How do you add salt to unsalted roasted nuts? ›

In general, roasting is a process where the temperature is lower but the time is higher (may be more than several minutes) while toasting is conducted at a much higher temperature for a short duration (say less than one minute). Until the late nineteenth century, dry heat roasting in an oven was called baking.

Are roasted and toasted nuts the same? ›

Roasted, for me, means you cook them in the oven, and toasted means you cook the nuts on the stove top. I see both words used interchangeably online, though. I use both methods, depending on whether I need to roast a few nuts or a lot, and how quickly I need them.

What's the difference between roasted and toasted nuts? ›

The difference between roast and toast is simple, really: roast means to expose something to dry heat (in the west, usually in an oven) and to cook whatever it is right through; toast means to brown the outside of something, either held over a fire (as in marshmallows) or placed under a dry heat source such as a grill ...
