Riot of colours at Srinagar

It's a riot of colours at Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden as Asia's largest tulip garden is welcoming tourists from all across the country. The garden, formerly known as Siraj Bagh, is ensconced between Dal Lake and Zabarwan Hills. It was thrown open to the public on Saturday, March 23, as tulips of different colours have started to bloom.

Five new varieties of tulips have been added to the existing 68 varieties this year. The department has also increased the area under the tulip garden by adding another two lakh bulbs. A record 17 lakh tulip bulbs have been planted in the garden that spreads over 55 hectares of land.

Convenient for tourists

The Srinagar tulip garden is easily reachable by road from Sheikh ul Alam International Airport, which is 22 kilometres away, the Srinagar Railway Station, which is 18 kilometres away, and Lalchowk, which is 8 kilometres away. This means that the garden is accessible for tourists.

Timings and ticket price

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is open to visitors from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., though daily hours may change depending on volume of traffic. Adult admission is Rs 75, while children's admission is Rs 30.

Lakhs of visitors

More than 3.65 lakh visitors, both domestic and foreign, visited the garden last year while it witnessed a footfall of 3.60 lakh people in 2022. The tulip garden is also one of the favourite locations for shooting films and videos as several units from across the country shot parts of their projects at the site last year.
