The Three Rules of Feyry (2024)

The Three Rules of Feyry

  1. Fey life is sacred. Do not kill when you can wound. To pierce, to wound, to weaken. This is the mantra at the courts. In this truce, killing another fey is considered a heinous crime punishable by death, and so, fey have found more subtle destroying arts. Watch your back and your tongue. Your life may not be the only thing you value.
  2. Your court is paramount. Your allegiance to your court is the one thing you cannot betray. Your allegiance, your belief, your keeping of your King or Queen, is a symbiotic relationship. They are the physical tie, the manifestation, between the wild of fey magic and you; if they are weakened, you become weaker, your magic less so. And so, allegiance to your ruler is less lip service and more self-preservation.
  3. Human lives are pawns. You will find humans can be the most important pieces on the board; if given the right circ*mstances, if your opponent makes the wrong moves. Fey fight by seeing life as a game, with humans as pieces. Humans can be leverage if a fey gets too close. They can be expendable and valuable (how far will protection be offered?). The only thing better than breaking a human is breaking their fey.

The Feyry Courts

There are two Feyry Courts: the Seelie Court and the Unseelie Court.

The Seelie Court has also been called the Shining Court, the Golden Court, and the Summer Court. The Unseelie Court is also known as the Shadow Court, the Steel Court, and the Winter Court.

The Seelie Court:It is said that everything a Seelie fey touches turns lovely.
This court is intensely interested in appearances. They are aristocratic and beautiful, using a lot of personal glamour to appear as their most gorgeous selves. They value youth and beauty and pleasure. Scars would be utterly unacceptable, insulting even; why, when you could cover them by magic? The Seelie Court is friendly toward humans and don’t mind interacting with them, especially if it garners them a benefit or a ruse. They donot see humans as equals though: in fact, they’re so invested in appearances that they shun and exile demifey, seeing them as untrustworthy. The only two demifey to remain in the Seelie Court are the King’s bastards, which is the only courtesy he has extended to them. Fey who aren’t full-blooded are seen as ‘tainted’ and ‘ugly’ and certainly not for dating (that would be forbidden). The Seelie Court forbids all dark and blood magic on pain of death. They work many magics, but their talents lean toward love, beauty, luck, persuasion, and riches—the stuff of influence and adoration. Seelie are great with flowers and herbs.

  • The Seelie Court runs a lending scheme out of Oakenfold Casino.

The Unseelie Court: Here, it is said, is the dark underbelly of everything.
They might be looked down on by the Seelie for it, but the Unseelie will accept fey of any blood lineage. To them, all fey are fey and worthy of acceptance. The Unseelie are thought of as monstrous because they do not use personal glamour half as much, and some pride on not using any at all. They even receive scars on their bodies and faces for valour, which are coveted. The Unseelie Court is ambivalent toward humans: they see them as pawns with short life spans, but not without their uses; the demifey even relate to humans. As long as the Unseelie follow their Queen’s rules, they tend to exert their freedom as much as they can and pursue individualism. While dark magic is allowed, it is frowned on, as the last time it ran rampant it decimated half the court and set their population back a century, so the Queen is strict with taboos. The Unseelie work a variety of magics, but their talents lean toward fear, wisdom, strategy, chaos, and mischief. They’re ever interested in revealing truths, especially those denied. Unseelie are great with crystals and stones.

  • The Unseelie Court runs an elixir cartel out of the back of the Rookery.

It’s a strange game… the only winning move is not to play.
