This fixture also presents a fairly decent ROI, at 80%, so you'll make up most of the money when and if it comes time to sell.

Why are patio covers so expensive? ›

Of course, the materials you choose as well as the amount of these materials (Size or scope) play a huge role in the overall cost of a patio cover or pergola. The bigger the cover, the more the material you use thus the more your cover will cost. One can expect a 10 x 10 patio cover to cost as much as a 10×15 cover.

What are the pros and cons of insulated patio cover? ›

Compared to uninsulated roofs, insulated patio roofs provide superior protection from heat and UV radiation as well as rainfall. They also have a smoother, premium appearance, concealing cabling for lights and fans. However, insulated roofing can be more costly and take longer to install.

What is the longest lasting patio cover material? ›

Extruded aluminum far outperforms patio covers manufactured from other materials prone to cracking, warping, rust, mold, and general wear and tear. Aluminum is lightweight yet exceptionally strong, weather-resistant, long-lasting, and virtually maintenance-free.

What is the longest lasting patio cover? ›

A vinyl patio cover will last between 10 and 15 years, meanwhile an aluminum patio cover lasts between 20 and 30 years.

Why do patio covers leak? ›

During or after even a moderate rain-fall, if a home has no gutter system in place to redirect rain water from the roof-top above, the concentrated water flow will be continuously falling on top of the patio cover.

How do I choose a patio cover? ›

When choosing a patio cover, it's important to consider the size and layout of your patio. Some covers are designed to fit specific patios, while others are water-resistant. It's also important to decide whether you want a removable or permanent cover.

Should patio covers touch the ground? ›

Patio Furniture Covers Must Be The Correct Size

If the outdoor patio furniture is too loose, wind may blow it off, and dust will still collect on the furnishings under the cover. If the cover is too long and touches the ground, rain or water will ruin the cover.

Which is better vinyl or aluminum patio covers? ›

How much wind can a patio cover withstand? ›

The average wind rating for patio covers in the United States is 90 MPH. We build our patio cover's to be able to withstand at least 90 MPH. Areas with 110 MPG wind ratings are considered high wind areas. At Solara we can engineer patio covers to withstand up to 120 MPH!

What are the disadvantages of aluminum patio covers? ›

Disadvantages of Aluminum Patio Covers

What type of patio is most durable? ›

The best material for patios is paver. The different types of pavers are concrete, clay brick, and natural stone. It's the best patio material due to its strength, ease of repair, and material options.

What is the most cost effective patio surface? ›

Gravel is the most affordable patio material, followed by wood and pavers. Natural stone patios cost the most, especially if you use high-end materials like granite, travertine, and bluestone. You'll get your money's worth with either gravel or stone.
