Notable new restaurants open all the time in Philadelphia, offering an array of options for the city’s diners. From casual takeout spots to fancy sit-down dinners, there is something for everybody in the city’s constantly evolving, deliciously diverse dining scene. Be patient, as changing times and recent years of ups and downs have been tough on restaurants and their staff — don’t forget to tip well.

From the folks who brought us Pizza Jawn now brings us this cozy spot in Manayunk that takes its American cuisine more seriously than a typical bar. Here, there’s generous portions of pasta (go for the chicken parmesan with penne), juicy smash burgers that make a saucy mess, and other entrées that will make one come for more than just a pint and a game.
This Black-owned gelato shop in Kensington has 36 memorable flavors that are all worth trying. There’s traditional and experimental flavors of sorbet (such as passion fruit, berry mafia, piña colada, pineapple grape, soursop), gelato (such as vanilla chocolate, orange creamsicle, brown sugar cinnamon pop tart, and salted caramel), and non-dairy and vegan options (such as their notable butterfly pea vanilla flavor) that’s perfect for this spring weather.
This Latino-owned café in Fishtown is a place for Puerto Rican bites and also a spot to grab a pair of the hottest sneakers. While shopping, customers can order their “Air Force One” (a specialty drink that blends coffee with caramel and white chocolate syrups), while enjoying their tres leches cake and seasonal tornillos (sweet cream-filled puffs).

Amy Rivera Nassa’s love letter to Puerto Rican street food comes alive at this beloved Fishtown hotspot. Here, hearty rice bowls (that can include shredded beef with onions, mixed peppers, white rice, sweet plantain, and pickled onion) can be served alongside savory pastelillos (tasty Puerto Rican meat turnovers).
Center City’s new Brazilian steakhouse is replacing another one (Chima) at the same exact location. At Nabrasa’s, their a full rodizio and salad bar is much more affordable ($53 per person) as sizzling unlimited servings of sirloin, filet mignon, lamb chops, grilled pineapple, and their monthly special (currently swordfish) can be served to diners at their desire.

Rittenhouse now has another worthy place to enjoy soothing, savory pho and delicious Vietnamese street food. Long vermicelli noodles with flavorful meats, papaya salads, and spring rolls are all on their vibrant menu.

This swanky hot sports bar in Rittenhouse is ideal for dressing to impress while sipping on blizzard margaritas and lavender collins. From Nashville hot chicken sliders and fried cheese curds to pork belly burnt ends and loaded tater tots — this is upscale bar food for the grown and sexy.
Liberty Place in Center City gets a major upgrade with the arrival of Puttshack — a grand game room restaurant that’s all fun and food. Unlike its arcade venue competition, what makes this spot stands out is its impressive cuisine that’s more than just predicable fried fast-food delights, but flavorful entrées (such as their Thai octopus, Lebanese hummus, Shiitake mushroom potstickers, and chorizo & cheese empanadas).
A new Italian BYOB replaces the longtime Entrée restaurant on South Street. At La Sera Italiana, there’s an expansive menu that features risotto scampi, veal picatta, tuscan salmone, and other very affordable entrées (most under $25) that’s worth checking out.
The long-awaited restaurant from Chef Ange Branca is finally here and is already attracting frequent customers. Now with an a la carte menu that includes ayam goreng berempah (spicy fried chicken). maggi goreng (instant noodles that’s fried in a wok alongside vegetables and various sauces) — it’s a wonderland for Malaysian street food lovers.
