Should I give 100 rupees to the fairy? ›

You'll need to give each Great Fairy a certain amount of rupees to grant you her power, which increases with each fountain you find. You'll need to pay 100 rupees to unlock the first fountain, 500 to unlock the second, 1,000 to unlock the third, and 10,000 to unlock the fourth and final fountain.

Approach the bud, and a voice will ask that you release the Great Fairy inside by giving rupees - 100 for the first Fairy Fountain. Upon doing so, the Great Fairy Cotera will emerge, and in thanks, will offer to upgrade your armor should you have the necessary materials for each armor piece.

Ultimately, it's not worth it to unlock every Great Fairy Fountain in TOTK. While it may be a good way to keep busy after beating Tears of the Kingdom, those who are looking to make the most of their time in Hyrule shouldn't bother with all four.

Upon unlocking each successive Great Fairy, all Great Fairies will become more powerful. In other words, all Fairies strengthen each other upon being released. It does not matter which order you unlock them in.

Once you've agreed to pay said one-time transaction (which can vary depending on the fairy), the Great Fairy will burst forth revealing a splendid fairy fountain.

When Link first enters the fountain, he can throw in either 50 or 200 Rupees. By doing so, the Great Rupee Fairy will restore Link's Hearts and release some Fairies. After throwing in a total of 3,000 Rupees, she will grow back to her normal size and reward Link with a Bottle.

By visiting their respective Great Fairy Fountains, Link can strengthen a piece of armor up to four times, once with each Fairy. Doing so will increase its defense stat, making it more durable against enemy attacks - and for certain items, it can even go towards unlocking an armor set bonus in Tears of the Kingdom.

So, if you want to bring any of your armor sets to max level, you will need to locate all four of them. The upside is that, again like the prior game, what order you visit the Fairies in doesn't matter.
