Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (2024)

Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga has, amidst mixed responses, brought to audiences a live-action adaptation of the beloved 2004 show The Winx Club. Reviving many childhood memories, the show, despite its myriad changes from the original, has maintained the magical world of Alfea at its core. Introducing many fairies, as well as giving a nod to the existence of witches, Fate: The Winx Saga has rejuvenated an exemplary world of magic.

In this magical world, some characters rank higher in terms of magical capabilities as compared to others. These include characters belonging to both the corrupt and righteous sides of magic, as well as those that populate the gray areas. While the ranking takes a close look at the sheer potential of each character, greater weight has been given to magical prowess showcased during the first seasons.

Updated on September 28th, 2022 by Amanda Bruce: Following the events of the second season, familiar Winx Saga characters have demonstrated an expansion of their abilities. Bloom’s roommates, for example, have proven themselves even more capable than the first season would indicate. Likewise, a whole new kind of magic in the blood witches was revealed, giving a very different kind of magical ability a showcase in the second season.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Season 2 of Fate: The Winx Saga on Netflix.

Sam

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (1)

Most of the male series regulars aren’t characters with magical abilities. Instead, they train as specialists. Sam is one of the exceptions though as he shares his family’s affinity for Earth magic. His, however, manifests in his ability to phase through solid objects made from earth, like the walls of the school.

Outside of that pretty great ability though, the audience doesn’t get to see him do much more. Unlike the core teenage girls that share a suite, the audience doesn’t see many more of the fairy students in class or learning other magical skills. It’s entirely possible that Sam is much more powerful than he appears, but that’s never made clear.

Grey

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (2)

While there are several mentions of blood witches in the first season of The Winx Saga, it’s Season 2 that allows them a little screen time. In Grey’s case, a lot of screen time. He originally gets to know Aisha as Sam’s roommate and a specialist who shares her love for swimming.

Grey, however, is hiding a secret. He’s also a blood witch, meaning he has the ability to control the movements of others since that’s where blood witches have their power instead of it being based in elemental magic. While Grey doesn’t use his magic often in the series, he does manage to pump Sky’s blood after his heart is stopped and get it beating again, proving that he does have great control over his abilities.

Musa

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (3)

Taking a huge detour from the animated Winx character of Musa, Netflix has ascribed different powers to the apparent “mind-fairy”. A music-fairy in the original shows, Musa’s powers in Fate are different, yet cool, contributing to her likability factor. Being an empath, she is perceptive to the emotions of everyone around her, to the extent that it overwhelms her most of the time.

Originally shown as capable of manipulating pain, she also becomes capable of influencing other emotions in the second season. She's also able to get inside the head of a specialist to help keep others who can manipulate them, like blood witches, out, though Musa doesn't have great control over that part of her power yet.

Flora

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (4)

Flora is an incredibly smart addition to the group in Season 2. Like Terra and Sam, she’s an Earth fairy. She doesn’t use her magic often though, focusing her talents on studying different plants and creating different remedies instead.

Like her cousin Terra, however, she’s likely more powerful than she seems. She shows an ability to make plants grow, just as Terra does, but she also coats her own hands in vines at one point without actually pulling them from an existing plant, hinting that she’s got some real power hidden up her sleeve.

Ben Harvey

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (5)

While not much has been shown about Ben Harvey’s magic, given that he's a professor at Alfea as well as a seasoned fairy, it is quite obvious that he is powerful. He is also a master potion-maker, having expert knowledge about plants and herbs.

His acuity in medicinal usage of plants is showcased through his successful concoction of Zanbaq, the drug that temporarily restricts infections caused by the Burned Ones. He is also one of the three fairies who participated in the powerful Convergence Magic that destroyed Aster Dell. Unfortunately, the audience doesn't get to see much of what he can do.

Terra

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (6)

A new character created just for the Netflix series, Terra is an earth-fairy who is imbued with the gifts of chlorokinesis. She also has an intricate knowledge of herbology, successfully creating Zanbaq that saves Saul Silva's life. She is even capable of conjuring vines to ensnare her opponents effectively. However, this young witch, bullied and insecure, often shuns the spotlight; doubting herself is one of her worst traits in Fate.

Regardless, in situations that demand her participation, Terra is quite capable of holding her ground, as was made evident during the final fight of the season. In the second season, Terra is one of only four fairies to transform and manifest wings from her power, showing how much potential she has.

Aisha

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (7)

Aisha showcases great skill and potential with her ability to control water at the beginning of the series, but soon seems to start losing focus due to performance pressure. She also reveals that, unlike Bloom, she is not a natural at magic, and has to work really hard to be good.

However, it is her dedication and constant practice that makes her a daunting fairy to stand against. As seen when she subdued the Burned One in the forest, as well as when she created the spectacular water-hurricane; Aisha is quite skilled. Her control is so complete that she's able to flood an engine and hide keys in a bubble of water from a considerable distance in the second season. Like Terra, she also focuses her power enough to transform and manifest her wings.

Stella

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (8)

Daughter to Queen Luna and heir to the kingdom of Solaria, Stella is quite powerful when it comes to magic. Trained since childhood by the powerful Queen Luna herself, Stella is quite adept at the use of photokinesis, manipulating light to change its color, brightness, as well as create an illusion of invisibility.

She also possesses the Gateway Ring, which is actually The Ring of Solaria from the animated series, providing her with the capability of teleportation. While her magic is largely stifled in the second season due to a magical tracking device, Stella still proves herself capable when she transforms alongside Aisha and Terra.

Beatrix

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (9)

By far the most intelligent character in The Winx Saga, Beatrix is also astoundingly powerful. She is an air-fairy capable of manipulating the air to generate electricity. She uses this electricity to move objects, create static-balls, as well as disrupt magical illusions, as seen when she reveals Aster Dell shrouded by Queen Luna’s powerful magic.

Furthermore, she is also shown to be strong enough to resist the mind-penetration techniques of a seasoned fairy like Farah Dowling; thereby firmly establishing that she is not to be trifled with. Her magic is some of the most consistent and reliable in the series, showing that, while she might not have as much raw power as someone like Bloom, she understands how to use her magic better.

Sebastian

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (10)

Of the blood witches The Winx Saga introduces, Sebastian appears to be the most powerful. Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable about ancient rituals, and able to complete them, but he’s also one of the few characters shown to use his abilities from long distances.

Sebastian is able to control people on the grounds of the school and in the woods while he’s an entire town away. As long as he maintains focus, his abilities appear to have an incredible range, not something seen with other blood witches, who need to be in the immediate vicinity of their subjects.

Farah Dowling

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (11)

Being the headmistress of Alfea, it is expected that Farah is quite powerful. A mind-fairy, Farah was amongst the four fairies and Specialists chosen by Rosalind to serve as her core team during her crusade against the Burned Ones, and even participated in the Convergence Magic that destroyed Aster Dell. She is shown to be a powerful mind-fairy, capable of mentally scanning her enemies, as well as achieving feats of telekinesis.

She is also capable of expertly creating veils and barriers, as showcased by the barrier keeping the Burned Ones out of Alfea and the cryo-inducement barrier that protects the secret passageway in her office. She also created a prison veil that was strong enough to restrain a fairy as powerful as Rosalind. Her effortless prowess when dealing with an isolated Burned One further bolsters Farah Dowling's magical capabilities. She even has a plan to preserve herself temporarily in death to aid her students after the fact.

Queen Luna

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (12)

Dubbed as one of the strongest fairies in all the realms, the Crown Monarch of Solaria is an expert at using magic. She is also regarded as the Queen of Light by some.

Queen Luna is a master of photokinesis, effortlessly manipulating light to create effects as trivial as the perfect lighting of a courtyard, to the inducement of concrete illusions as well as invisibility. She is also responsible for the lasting illusion that hides Aster Dell, and although Beatrix manages to disrupt it for some time, the magic is powerful enough to reactivate and sustain for as many years as it did.

Bloom

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (13)

Bloom isn't just one of the most likable Winx fairies; she's also one of the most powerful. Equipped with the ancient magic referred to as Dragon Flame by Rosalind, the changeling Bloom Peters is by far the most powerful among the student fairies in Alfea, and even some experienced faculty of the magical school. While she seemed unable to control or harness her powers at the beginning of the season, she soon starts to improve, being able to even use the lost-art of Transformation Magic by the end of the season.

Apparently, it is her magic that created the Burned Ones, and she successfully changed them back to humans after defeating them. She is also able to effortlessly maneuver, manipulate, and manufacture fire. The only factor that stops her from attaining the top-spot is her lack of experience as a fairy and limited understanding of her true potential.

Rosalind

Fate: The Winx Saga: The Main Characters, Ranked By Magical Ability (14)

Rosalind is undoubtedly the character with the greatest magical prowess as far as Season 1 is concerned. Showcased to be extremely powerful and evil, she had to be imprisoned behind an enchanted barrier. Rosalind is arguably the strongest fairy, owing to the simple fact that she seems to possess the powers and abilities of almost every other fairy in the show.

Capable of performing Convergence Magic, she generated a monstrous lightning strike that destroyed Aster Dell. Rosalind successfully performed telepathy, connecting with Bloom’s mind, as well as that of Dane and Riven later in the season. She also showcased powers of telekinesis and manipulation of the soil when she levitated Farah, snapped her neck, and buried her in the ground. She was also able to avert Farah, making herself and Bloom invisible when the former had come searching near the Stone Circle. Her dominant and successful crusade against the Burned Ones also proves the indomitable magical strength of Rosalind. It's entirely surprising that Bloom is able to get the better of her in the second season.
